Kastori lies in northern Taygetos, a lively village with stone mansions, fountains, Byzantine churches and pleasant squares. Its trademark is the old watermills along the Kastor river, and the clear springs of Agios Mamas, where trout and salmon are farmed.
The walk along the river is one of the easiest and prettiest in the region: an almost flat path under old trees, over wooden bridges and past mill ruins to the arched Marble Bridge – about 1.5 km, around 40 minutes. The area is also good for mountain biking and canyoning. For trail information ask the 'Lousina' association of Friends of Taygetos, based on the square.
