Arna is a mountain village at 750 metres on the eastern slopes of Taygetos, surrounded by plane, apple, chestnut and walnut trees and the fir and black-pine forest of Vasiliki. In the middle of the square stands a giant plane tree, around 30 metres tall, next to the marble fountain of Ftialina.
Cobbled streets, springs and tavernas serving local food make it a pleasant stop. The E4 path leads from here to the Agia Marina spring and the Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa, and another path heads through the forest towards the village of Spartia. At the end of October the Chestnut Festival brings visitors from all over Greece.
