Varvitsa is one of the oldest villages of the area, built at 1,060 metres on the west side of Meterizi hill on Parnon. Stone houses and rich greenery surround a square shaded by tall plane trees.
It is the birthplace of Captain Zacharias Barbitsiotis, a hero of the years leading up to the Greek Revolution of 1821; his statue stands in the square. Stop for a coffee and enjoy the view across to Taygetos.
