On a green plateau south of Xirokampi, the walled Monastery of Zerbitsa was founded in 1639 and is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin. It was a centre for copying manuscripts and took part in the 1821 Revolution, for which Ibrahim's army burnt it in 1826. Later it housed a school and an orphanage.
The church has an octagonal dome and wall paintings of 1669. A huge old plane tree shades the courtyard, and a small museum shows icons, carvings, silverwork and a gold-embroidered epitaphios of 1539. Today it is a convent; the feast day is 23 August.
