This museum follows the olive through Greek history, from prehistory to the early 20th century. Look for fossilised olive leaves from Santorini, 50,000–60,000 years old, and Linear B tablets of the 14th century BC that mention olive oil.
Working replicas show how oil was pressed in prehistoric, Hellenistic and Byzantine times, alongside a wooden press from Xirokampi and models of water-, steam- and engine-driven mills, plus a section on soap making. It is very family-friendly, with programmes for children.
