Two well-preserved houses show how Byzantine nobles lived in Mystras. The Laskaris mansion, linked to the famous family of that name, is a tall rectangular building with a large balcony; its vaulted ground floor was probably a stable.
The Frangopoulos mansion, near the Pantanassa, dates from the early 15th century. Its owner, Ioannis Frangopoulos, founded the Pantanassa monastery. It has an elegant balcony with stone arches and a cistern for water in the vaulted basement.
